Driver's License Suspension

Driver's License Suspensions in Maryland & DC

Yes, Bethesda and the Greater Washington, DC metro area are known for their thorough and convenient public transportation options. That's small comfort, however, if you are facing suspension of your driver's license.

Driver's license suspensions occur in response to several different situations. The Department of Motor Vehicles or the police may suspend your driver's license for a drunk-driving offense, for failure to pay child support, for failure to pay traffic tickets, and for other violations of the law.

Depending on the jurisdiction you are in, you may be eligible to apply for a restricted driver's license — one that will allow you to drive to work or to childcare.

As part of the criminal defense services we offer our clients, The Law Offices of Lloyd A. Malech handles the administrative hearing process necessary to appeal driver's license suspensions and apply for a restricted driver's license.

Requesting a Hearing

In Maryland, you must request a license suspension hearing from the Motor Vehicle Authority (MVA) within five days if you are a state resident, or within 10 days if you have an out-of-state driver's license. In DC, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will notify you in writing about your opportunity for a hearing.

Our law firm is led by veteran trial lawyer Lloyd A. Malech, who has practiced law in Maryland since 1994 and DC since 1996. We offer our clients the benefits of access to experienced legal help, at reasonable rates, from a lawyer who understands the DMV hearing procedures in both jurisdictions.

Depending on the type of criminal charges you face, the administrative license suspension hearing can give your defense lawyer an excellent opportunity to begin to build a defense against the criminal charges.
